Support Operations

Evidence Unit

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Evidence Unit is responsible for managing the security and integrity of evidence secured by the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office. The Evidence Unit is responsible for the following:

  • Documenting all evidence collected and brought to the Evidence Unit
  • Maintaining chain of custody of evidence
  • Transporting evidence to South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in Columbia for testing and evaluation
  • Transporting evidence to court
  • Returning recovered property to victims
  • Testing material suspected to be marijuana
  • Coordinating proper disposal of evidence after trial
  • Assisting other GCSO Units as needed

Information Management Unit

The Information Management Unit manages the following:

  • Homeland Security Program
  • 9-1-1 Central Communications Center Operations
  • Crime Analysis Program
  • Coordinating Criminal Intelligence
  • Coordinating emergency preparedness and hurricane response activities
  • Assisting other GCSO Units as needed
  • Computer Services Program

Port Security Unit

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Port Security Unit provides security at the Port of Georgetown 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. The Port Security Unit is responsible for the following:

  • Facility Security
  • Security Patrols
  • Securing ships and crews in port
  • Ship boardings
  • Counter terrorism operations with federal and state authorities(Project Sea Hawk)
